Gudalur is a municipality and taluk in Nilgiris district. It is found 52km from Ooty. Gudalur is derived from Moundadan chetty. It can also be believed that the name derived from Tamil koodal. Though the history of the name is lost, it is the place where all the three states boundraies meet. The regionsl economic system is largely dependent on the tea leaf industry. Being the satellite town between Ooty and Mysore it attracts both the tourist locations. Gudalur has the prospect of turning into another tourist destination. Tamil is most speaken laanguage in Gudalur sinceĀ it has its borders in Kerala also some of the people speak Malayalam. Gudalur is located in a height about 3500 feet above sea level climate is here very moderate. The rain is being received during the month from June to AugustĀ from the south west monsoon and North east monsoon contributes from October to November. The town of Devala in Gudalur Taluk is likely to be known as Cherrapunji of south.
