Ooty Government hospital gets a blood component separator on wednesday this was inaugrated by Collector J Innocent Divya. The machine is being operational that patients appear here wont be referred to other hospitals said the joint director of health H Ravi Kumar. In previous days there was no facility available to separate blood components in Ooty, affected people used to refer patients especially affected by dengue fever they are transfered to hospitals in Coimbatore. While dengue patients require only white platelets, anaemic patients need red blood cells. It is very dangerous to transfuse whole blood to an anaemic patient it would affect functioning of the heart. Newborns are also face blood deficient counts and they require components that facility was lacking so long. They also mentioned that the late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in 2013 alloted rs 2.5 crore to the district to upgrade the Ooty Gh on par with medical college hospitals under rule 110. The blood separator machine was setup at a cost of Rs 25 lakh, though it was installed a month ago the hospital received licence from the drug controller general of India only recently. In Nilgiri blood bank facility is available only in three government hospitals such as Ooty GH, Coonoor GH and Gudalur GH.
