Sterling Biotech Ltd is an industrial unit manufracturing edible and non edible grade gelatin at sandynallah near Ooty. There was a sudden order issued by the pollution control board on friday and electricity connection was disconnected by the TNPCB. The waste water from these factory pollute the main tourists part of Ooty such as Sandynallah river, Pykara river and the Kamarajar dam are highly infected due to discharge of the effluents from industrial unit. Nalini, district envirnoment engineer, TNPCB, coimbatore and also in charge of Nilgiris district issued order to electricity board and disconnected the power supply to Sterling Biotech Ltd in Ooty. Industry failed to adhere to the orders issued from the TNPCB with in the stipulated period. The order says that the unit was instructed to provide zero liquid discharge system to treat the waste and to recycle the waste inside the premises and not to discharge it outside but the unit failed to implement the system with in prescribed time thats the reason electricity board has been ordered to disconnect power to the unit. Ooty is maintaining up its pollution free name so that lot more tourists may visit in the future.
