11 more resorts shut on Nilgiris

The Nilgiris district administration has shutdown 11 m0re resorts that have been functioning without approval on the elephant corridor in the buffer zone on the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve. One of the resorts belonged to actor and the former west bengal Rajya Sabha MP Mithun Chakraborty. There are almost six resorts in Bokkapuram, three in Vazhaithottam, one in Kovilpatti and one in Masinagudi all these were completely sealed by a team of revenue officials as the owners have forgot to submit their valid building approvals to the district collector. While lot of many commercial buildings were shut down residential buildings were exempted 113 buildings had valid residential building approval. The revenue official said that Chakraborty’s Monarch safari park shut on sunday had been functioning for over a decade in Bokkapuram. The supreme court had directed the collector to check all the documents which are related to 12 resorts functioning in the buffer zone of the MTR and seal them if they dont have any valid documents. While 11 of them were shut and the exempted that owner had been using its as residential complex.
