Perched atop the Elk Hill in Ooty, amidst wonderful background and a resplendent setting, Elk Murugan Temple is an adored Hindu temple enshrined by Lord Muruga. Besides the gorgeous landscape and astounding all encompassing vistas, the slope also boasts of rich and flourishing untamed life and bounteous nature. For the same reason, the spot is considered ideal for reflection and yoga practices. Notwithstanding the splendid design of the sanctuary, the feature of the spot is a 40 feet tall statue of Lord Muruga constructed in physical that stands tall outside the enclosures of the sanctuary and attracts pilgrims and devotees from all over. Notwithstanding that, the sanctuary premises also have idols of Lord Ganesha, Lord Shiva, Goddess Shakthi, Nava Kanika, Navagrahas and so forth. Thaipusam is the famous religious festival that is praised in the period of January-February to respect the Lord Murugan. Some devotees also convey a transporter finished with flowers and peacock feathers, called ‘kavadi’ on their back which also has milk offerings. There is also a move structure called Kavadi Attam performed at the event.
