Supreme Court has ordered directly to seal down 11 resorts and hotels that has been bulit in the elephant corridor of Nilgiris within 48 hours. The order was from the Tamilnadu government which was headed by Justice Madan B Lokur directed the owners of the other resorts in the particular area to place their documents of approval before the collector within 24hours. The collector will verify the documents and if e arrives at a conclusion that the resort or hotel has been constructed without prior approval then it should be closed within 48hours. Elephants are their National Heritage and expressed displeasure as to how constructions had come up on the elephant corridor of Nilgiris. Government has found out several hotels and resorts have been constructed in the elephant corridor. The counsel told court that around 18,000 elephants came to Tamilnadu during the monsoon season and the court should direct that the power connection to these resorts should be snapped. The centre has told the court that a committee was formed consider the suggestions, including making corridors across the country for the safe passage for elephants and other dangered animals.
