Ooty Golf Course is situated in the town of Ooty in Tamilnadu. The Golf course is at an altitude of about 7200feet it is under the control of Gymkhana club in Ooty. The Golf course extends over 193.56acres and contains 18 holes. The Golf club was formed by Colonel Fane Sewell the secretary of the Blue Mountains Tennis and Cricket club in the year 1891. In the beginning ground consists of only 9 holes later it was extended towards 18 holes. In 1929 hydraulic systems were installed to pump the water from the nearby steam. Feeder pipes were installed in 1970 to water the golf course. The climate in Ooty is very favourable for playing golf, the thick forest surrounding course contains various types of trees which are useful for their medical purpose. Nine holes to eighteen holes are shot blind as the course are rolling landscape. The fifth hole rises about 200 feet above the fourth hole and hence it very difficult to play and considered as the toughest hole. Various type of tournaments are conducted such as Annual amateur golf championship is held during the summer. The first winner of the championship was Major Quinton. Many facilities for the golfers are provided by the golf club like ten rooms and six huts. Other facilities like billiards, cards and table tennis are available.
