Ooty Municipality seems to be in a good motive that to keep the city neat and tidy because of the hilly retreat. It has implemented door to door garbage collection in all 36 wards and also it has added 8 new garbage collection vans. Which works on the high engine power to cope with difficult in town. These vans has been removing around 80 dustbins from various place in the town. In the starting they had 16 vans to collect garbage in the town. But the vechicles could not reach certain areas because of their engine power. Then later many funds have been allotted for the vans with high engine power which could carry a capacity about 1.5 tonne waste. According to the municipal engineer and the commissioner incharge Mr.Ravi the vehicles could cover around 36 wards on Ooty daily. Plastic wastes are sent to the private areas for recycling and wet wastes are taken to conveyer belts. Manure produced out of it are distributed to the farmers. The Muncipality collects on a average 9 metric tonne of market waste and food waste a day.During the season time the amount of food waste goes on increasing including plastic and other dry waste from town.
