Flower show is the one of the famous part of the Ooty. The first flower show was organised in 1896 by the chariman of Nilgiris and also by the collector of Nilgiris. Then the Government has taken over the control of flower show from Agir horicultural society in the year 1980. The flower show attracts 150000 tourist all over the world. The flower is conducted for nearly two days the inaugration held is on the first day and in the second day prizes are distributed to the winners of various competitions. Around 250 people will participate in various categories
of the flower show event. Many government departments and voluntry agencies also display their activities to the benefits of the flower show lovers. In the flower show more than 150 varities of flowers are placed various kinds of tropical and temperate vegetables and fruits are exhibited by the participants. Main attraction of the show is that Japanese flower arrangements, Vegetable craving, Flower Rangoli, Bonsai etc. The cut flowers stalls from private and public gardens are also the attraction of the show. A garden competition is also held to the estate garden, private cottages gardens, public gardens nearly about 200 gardens compete in the event and various kinds of prizes are provided to the winners and runners.
