The Government Rose Garden is situated on the slopes of the Elk Hill in Vijayanagaram of Ooty town at an altitude of 2200 meters. its is also called as Jayalalithaa Rose Garden Ooty, hence the garden has the ideal climatic conditions for growing roses.There will always be a modification on climatic conditions that contributes to massive growing of botanical plants.The garden is visited by thousands of tourists throughout the year, even in winter when it is not the flowering season. The flowers are arranged in five curving terraces covering four hectares.The garden is maintained by Tamil Nadu Horiculture Department.Rose Garden attract large number tourists with different varieties of roses.There are many collections of roses that includes Miniature roses,Ramblers,Hybird Tea Roses,Yakimour,Polyanthas,Papagena,Floribunda. Most of the roses are unusual in colour such as green and black. The slopes of the garden also features the Nila Maadam, an observation platform. From the Nila Maadam, visitors can view the entire rose garden.The garden also features a statue of an angel amidst the roses.
